Our fish specialties include Istrian style cod, octopus or crab salads, and seafood risottos. Main courses depend on the daily fresh fish, such as sea bass, gilt-head bream, and monkfish.

In addition to fish, we offer meat specialties such as lamb under the bell (peka) and game dishes. To accompany your meal, choose premium wines such as malvasia, chardonnay, or pinot from the best Istrian cellars.

Our capacity is 55 seats inside and 35 on the outdoor terrace. Konoba Astarea is considered one of the best Istrian taverns, so table reservation is mandatory.

OUR STORY

It all started on 15.08.1980 when Pero Orepić, a sailor and captain from Dubrovnik, opened the tavern Astarea in Brtonigla on the way from Buje to Novigrad. After falling in love and marrying a woman from Istria, he moved to Brtonigla and turned the first floor of the family house into a tavern, naming it Astarea after the historical name of the oldest land territory of the Republic of Dubrovnik.

Fifteen years later, on 25.11.1995, the spouses Alma and Anton Kernjus, both talented chefs from the Poreč Riviera, took over Astarea. After Anton's death a few years ago, their son Ivan Kernjus took over the management of the tavern, continuing his father's tradition and successfully running Astarea to this day.

Fish under the bell is our specialty that will knock you off your feet.

We will show you an example of a successful evening in the rustic ambiance of Konoba Astarea with family or friends.

The fish menu starts with Istrian style cod, salted sardines, octopus or crab salad, and sometimes even salmon. Warm appetizers include seafood risottos, black risotto with cuttlefish, or shrimps buzara style. Main courses depend on the available fish: sea bass, gilt-head bream, scorpionfish, monkfish, sole, John Dory, dentex, conger, turbot. Scorpionfish, monkfish, turbot, and congers we prepare under the bell, while other fish on the grill or under the bell. With the main course, choose quality wines such as malvasia, chardonnay or pinot from Istrian cellars like Ortonero, Arman, Degrassi, Matošević.

Desserts include apple strudel from the peka, cold cakes, pancakes with jam, chocolate, nuts or ice cream, fruit salads and sorbet. We recommend Kozlović muscat for a dessert wine.

After dessert, enjoy a wide selection of homemade spirits.
